Shorter & Son Ltd of Staffordshire were celebrated producers of majolica-inspired art pottery throughout the mid-20th century, and their Cabbage Leaf range remains among the most sought-after of their output. This delightful sauce boat and matching underplate, produced circa 1945, is a fine example — hand-crafted in the majolica tradition with rich relief leaf moulding and a vivid plum motif set against a deep green glaze.

The cabbage leaf relief is beautifully rendered, with the naturalistic texture of the moulding contrasting against the glossy glaze finish. The plum motif adds a warm, jewel-like accent that speaks to the Art Deco influence of the period. The sauce boat holds approximately 300ml and sits comfortably on its matching underplate — a complete and cohesive set, bearing the printed Shorter & Son backstamp that confirms its Staffordshire provenance.
