Exquisite Japanese Arita-Yaki Sometsuke Porcelain Plate
Japanese Arita-Yaki Sometsuke Porcelain Plate — Meiji / Taisho Era
Produced in Kyushu during the Meiji to Taisho era (1900–1919), this Arita-Yaki Sometsuke plate represents a high point in Japan's centuries-old tradition of cobalt blue and white underglaze porcelain. The Fuyode "hibiscus-petal style" decorative border frames a kacho-ga (bird and flower) interior composition, hand-painted in rich underglaze blue against the brilliant white of the Arita porcelain body. The glassy vitreous finish is characteristic of the Kyushu kilns' technical mastery, and the cobalt saturation achieved during this period remains unmatched in later production. An authentic original piece carrying genuine antique provenance — an exceptional acquisition for collectors of Asian ceramics and blue-and-white ware.
