Dümler & Breiden German Art Pottery Bowl Plate 'Spiderweb' Glaze Marked PD 61
Dümler & Breiden German Art Pottery Bowl — "Spiderweb" Glaze, Marked PD 61
Produced in Höhr-Grenzhausen in the Westerwald region of West Germany in the early 1960s, this Dümler & Breiden bowl is a textbook example of Mid-Century Modern West German art pottery at its most experimental. The piece is decorated in the studio's distinctive "Spiderweb" pattern — a hand-incised sgraffito technique in which a fine web of lines is worked into the unfired clay before the gunmetal glaze is applied, resulting in a striking graphic contrast of grey, black, white, and silver. At 22cm in diameter and 6cm in height, the round bowl is a generous display piece weighing 829g — solid and well-potted with an impressed backstamp confirming authentic factory attribution. West German sgraffito pottery of this period is among the most actively collected mid-century ceramics in the international market today. A distinguished and characterful piece from a well-regarded maker.
