Vintage Brass Horse Desk Set Inkstand Mother of Pearl
A Rare Piece of Melbourne History
An ornate and collectible Australian-made inkstand by Eyelets Pty Ltd, Melbourne, dating to the 1940s. The centrepiece is a beautifully cast prancing horse in gilt brass and bronze, mounted on an iridescent, hand-etched Mother of Pearl shell base depicting grape and vine motifs — a hallmark of the Victorian and French Provincial Revival style.
The stand includes two glass inkwells with decorative brass lids and two tapered pen rests. The horse is saddled with a shell-shaped dish, intended for nibs or small desk accessories. A heavy, high-quality piece, ideal for collectors of Australian antiques or fine writing instruments.
